Peru, Chancay, wooden funerary head, ca. 1000-1300 AD

with large oval eyes, inlaid shells, painted teeth and weathered nose and chin. Mounted on a black perspex stand. The back with a flat rectangular part and two rims with three holes. At the tapering bottom of the mask a wooden carved peg. With red, white and remnants of black pigments. Collection of Fred Carasso (1899-1969) an Italian born famous Dutch sculptor and collector of fine Arts, and family collection.
