New Ireland, a carving for malagan, 19th century,
standing female figure holding her breasts in her hands, two struts shaped as a fish flanking the body, operculae shell eyes, the hairdo shows marine fibre tufts at the back. According to the former owner this piece belonged to an Austrian collection, 1880. An old illegible label attached to the handle below. Provenance, Austrian collection by repute, Jan Visser, Amsterdam, Willem Zwiep, Amsterdam, 1997 en Maarten van Straaten, The Hague.
