arms flanking the elongated torso, wearing necklaces, the head surmounted by a conical projection and a plank like ornament behind. Alain Nicolas notes (Ibid., p. 224), "Funerary sculptures, carved in a very hard wood, were made during the lifetime of an individual. Certain sculptures represent masculine figures, arms alongside the body, with heads topped by traditional crested coiffures.
Provenance: Collected by an American director of photography for the National Geographic Society. Collected in situ between 1967-1970. Inherited by descent.
