Philippines, Luzon, Ifugao, Hapao, a standing male protective figure, bulul;

with broad shoulders, articulated chest, collar bones, Adam's apple and prominent sex. Wearing a disc shaped hat, carved as part of the figure. On top a carved broad ridge. Dark encrusted patina. Standing on a disc shaped pedestal.

Provenance: William Beyer, Manilla before 1975. Rob Kok, Gallery Mabuhay, Amsterdam. Exhibited in Gallery Mabuhay, June 20th - July 31st 1975, Amsterdam. Rob Kok opened his Gallery Mabuhay on June 19th 1975 in the Berenstraat in Amsterdam with his now famous exhibition 'The Art of Ifugao', then one of the first exhibitions on the Arts of the Philippines in Europe. This figure can be seen standing on the top glass shelve on the right. French private collection. Willem Zwiep, Amsterdam and private Dutch collection.
