Papua, Cenderawasih Bay, an ancestor figure, korwar,

standing behind a pair of S-shaped sticks, the rectangular shaped face below a conical headdress, with blue inset glass bead eyes, arrow-shaped nose, partly carved free, broad narrow mouth, the hands and ears carved likewise. On the back inscribed in black 'Wariab'.

Provenance:Pitt Rivers Museum, Farnham, Dorset, acquisition ledger page 1587; William Downing Webster (1868-1913) aug. 1897 Webster nr. 1410 in white ink and bought from Cornelis Marinus Pleyte (1863-1917).
