China, a pair of similar square blue and white porcelain 'narrative' bottle vases, Kangxi period (1662-1722), 17th century,

modelled after a Dutch gin bottle example, each side painted with various figural scenes based on a tale or poem, including a pair of ladies beneath a stellar constellation, elegant ladies and boys in a garden, figures on horseback, the shoulders tapering into ribbed necks (some frittings and some chips consolidated and retouched along the edges, small restorations to the necks and rims, with overspraying along edges, glaze scratches, looting lines visible)
