Papua, Lake Sentani, two dance staffs,
one surmounted by a standing male figure, the other by a female figure standing on a plinth of four free-carved legs, traces of white, red and black pigments, plant fibre tassels.
Provenance: C.T. Bertling (1891-1970), Bloemendaal, acquired in the late 1920s. In the black and white photograph we can see C.T. Berling sitting in his home in Menado, Sulawesi, holding one of the two staffs in his hand. On the table we see the Tanimbar figure, lot 5603, ca. 1927.
